New supplement launched to reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis
A new joint health supplement has been launched in South Africa which supports healthy joints and helps reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis such as joint pain and stiffness.1
Unlike other osteoarthritis supplements on the market, POSTEON™ has been shown to start working in as little as five days.1
According to scientifically based research, the ingredients in Posteon™ may help reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis such as joint pain and stiffness, as well as improving range of motion and mobility.1
Taken once a day, Posteon™ contains the most active compound of Boswellia serrata gum resin extract, which has traditionally been used to relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis. It also contains Avocado soy unsaponifiables (ASU) which studies have found can reduce the production and action of various joint inflammatory substances, helping to prevent the destruction of joint cartilage and also help in its repair.1
Sometimes referred to as degenerative joint disease or ‘wear and tear’ arthritis, osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis,2 and affects between 55.1% and as many as 82.7% of adults aged over 65 years in South Africa.3
With osteoarthritis, the cartilage within a joint begins to break down and the underlying bone begins to change. These changes usually develop slowly and get worse over time. Osteoarthritis can cause pain, stiffness, and swelling, most frequently in the hands, hips, and knees. In some cases, it also causes reduced function and disability with some people no longer being able to do daily tasks or work.2
Some of the risk factors for osteoarthritis include joint injury or overuse, obesity and genetics. The risk of developing osteoarthritis also increases with age. Women, especially those over the age of 50, are also more at risk of developing this condition.2 Globally, the prevalence of osteoarthritis is increasing, and is expected to continue to escalate.4
POSTEON™, which is now available at leading pharmacies, may reduce these symptoms1 which can significantly impact day-to-day functioning.2
