A Dream Realised: The Challenges and Triumphs of Building a Mandela Legacy

A Dream Realised: The Challenges and Triumphs of Building a Mandela Legacy

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital was a project that seemed impossible when it was merely an idea. The seed took root when 10 people sat around a table discussing the state of paediatric care in South Africa – a discussion sparked by the death of a five-year-old boy. These people shared similar experiences that all pointed to the fact that devoted specialist care was needed for children. And so began the remarkable story of a children’s hospital built in the name of one of the world’s greatest leaders. Authors Ulrike Hill and Zanele Chakela recount the trials and tribulations of their long journey to bring the stories to the page in the new book ‘A Dream Realised: The Challenges and Triumphs of Building a Mandela Legacy’.

Achieving a sustainable Festive Season

Achieving a sustainable Festive Season

Keeping the holidays eco-friendly may seem like a daunting and perhaps, at times, even a somewhat impossible task. However, there are entirely manageable strategies to ensure that you can celebrate the Festive Season fully while also achieving sustainability. The Festive Season is often a time where waste increases. Many products that are not eco-friendly and/or biodegradable are used in large supply. The increased use of plastics, electricity, water and cleaning products lead to a real threat on sustainability – putting your health, your loved ones’ health, and the environment at risk.

What is indemnity cover and why do doctors need it?

What is indemnity cover and why do doctors need it?

A surprising number of GPs and specialists are unaware of the myriad ways in which they could fall victim to litigation, often believing this to be confined to the settlement of a negligence finding following an inadvertent patient injury. According to Dr Hlombe Makuluma, Medico-Legal Risk Advisor at EthiQal, a division of Constantia Insurance Company Ltd and the first South African provider of both occurrence-based and claims-made cover to doctors, the risk spreads far wider.
